Frequently Asked Questions
About True Body Soap
What has changed with True Body Soap?
After nearly six months in stores and based on enthusiastic customer feedback, True Body Soap has made a few changes. First, we've modified the formula to replace palm kernel oil with much more sustainable coconut oil. We're very excited about this change since it's a big step forward in our mission to produce environmentally sustainable products. Second, we've adjusted the bar size since we've heard from many customers that they prefer a slightly smaller bar that fits better in the hand.
Are your coconut oil and palm oil from sustainable sources?
Coconut oil is a highly sustainable resource and does not hold the environmental threat that palm oil poses. The huge demand for palm oil for biodiesel production is driving the massive clear-cutting of rainforests in Malaysia and Indonesia to set up palm oil plantations. And while our formula does include a small amount of palm oil, it is sourced from members of the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil.
Is there caustic lye (sodium hydroxide) in your soap?
Lye (sodium hydroxide) is used in the saponification process and there is absolutely no trace of it left in the finished product.
Does it really have no scent?
There is no added fragrance and no masking agent added to hide any scent. Most people tell us they don’t smell a thing.
Does it come in other scents?
Not right now but we're considering it. If you have a product suggestion please contact us.
Is it good for people with sensitive skin?
Its pH is around 9, making it somewhat alkaline. So if you have extremely sensitive skin, eczema, or another skin condition, it might leave your skin feeling tingly or tight.
Do you make it yourself (home/hand made)?
We wanted to make this in large enough quantities to reach many people so it’s made at Twincraft, a world-class contract manufacturer in Winooski, Vermont. Using mass production techniques also helps us keep costs down.
Is this a glycerine soap?
Glycerine is a natural by-product of the soap-making process. Like many natural soaps, we leave the glycerine in our soap because it adds moisturization properties. Many conventional, mass-produced soaps strip out the glycerine and sell it off for a profit. It is possible to make soap of glycerine alone but these tend to be very water soluble (i.e. don’t last very long). The glycerine content of True Body Soap is only about 5-6% of the total product.
